From Point Cloud to BIM model

In a previous post, we were excited to share our recent collaboration with the Swiss Federal Roads Office (FEDRO), where we showcased the transformative power of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and artificial intelligence (AI) in surveying the iconic Nanin bridge, designed by Christian Menn and put into service in 1967. We pushed an envelope a little further and present a groundbreaking procedure for the semi-automated transformation of the bridge’s point cloud data into a comprehensive Building Information Modelling (BIM) model. This procedure combines the strengths of artificial intelligence with heuristic geometric algorithms, resulting in highly accurate and efficient modelling.

The BIM models generated through our approach, saved in the widely compatible IFC format, hold immense potential for asset management applications. These digitized assets not only streamline information management but also facilitate precise inspection scheduling and maintenance planning. At IMC, our mission is to spearhead the digitalization of the built environment for advanced Asset Management Systems. By harnessing cutting-edge technologies, we aim to revolutionize information management, streamline asset inspections, and optimize maintenance planning processes. Our commitment lies in delivering affordable, sustainable, and reliable solutions that empower decision-makers in infrastructure management to make informed choices for the future.
