Keynote Lecture at fibCACRCS 2025 – From Research to Daily Engineering

Prof. Rade Hajdin had the honour of delivering the opening keynote titled
“Bridge Management Systems – The Next Generation”
at the 5th fib Conference on Capacity Assessment of Corroded Reinforced Concrete Structures (fibCACRCS 2025), held at Politecnico di Milano in Lecco, Italy (30.06–03.07.2025).

The lecture outlined how future Bridge Management Systems (BMS) will rely on realistic deterioration and structural behaviour models—enabling more accurate evaluation of damaged elements and more effective maintenance strategies.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Hajdin stressed the need for high-quality, accessible bridge data to tackle aging infrastructure, increased traffic, and natural hazards. The proposed approach leverages existing data, supports continuous safety and serviceability assessments, and integrates legacy systems with BIM and SHM, evolving into a true Digital Twin of the entire network—a single source of truth for infrastructure management.

fibCACRCS 2025 focused on practical applications in structural assessment, covering corrosion indicators, material properties, service life prediction, and intervention strategies. Thank you to all participants for advancing the dialogue between research and practice.
