Dr. Chris Thürlimann worked as a Design engineer at Freeman Fox & Partners () in London (UK) after finishing his studies ( ) in Civil Engineering at ETH Zürich (Switzerland). From 1979 he was a research assistant at the ETH Lausanne (Switzerland) where he further specialised and was awarded a PhD title in 1984. After working for two engineering firms in San Francisco (USA), Degenkolb Associates and T.Y. Lin Int. ( ), he commenced work in the Facility management department at UBS in Zürich. After working there for 14 years, he had been entrusted with the role of Vice Director of practical experiences in Portfolio Management, Facility Management, Project management and in Finance and Accounting. In the years 2000 until 2002, Dr. Thürlimann worked as Chief of Planning and Construction and served as member of the Executive Board at Avireal (Swissair SAirGroup). There he was responsible for the project development and realisation as well as the provision and organisation of facility management. After a brief term as Head of the Department of Ground Engineering Structures at Canton of Bern, Dr. Thürlimann assumed the role of Head of Facility Management at the Swiss Federal Rail Company (SBB) in Bern (Switzerland), where he, between In 2004 Dr. Thürlimann became an independent consultant and has served as a consultant on numerous real estate and infrastructure management projects. Since 2008 Dr. Thürlimann is a part of the team at Infrastructure Management Consultants (IMC) in Zürich as Senior Project Manager.
